The SGH-Z300, announced earlier this year, will soon be available in Europe. It comes with video telephony, streaming, messaging and video recording, features a 1.3 mega pixel with flash and a VGA camera for video telephony and 262,144 colour TFT.

This model offers an MP3 player plus AAC and AAC+ players. It is a phone for music lovers, comes with a dual-speaker, digital amplified stereo sound, 3D sound, an acoustic design and it is rumoured that it comes with a range of unheard ringtones. Don’t worry if the built-in 50MB of memory doesn’t sound like much, the Z300 supports removable TransFlash memory modules.

Its keypad is large and responsive with positive tactile feedback including a blue back light. Navigation has been simplified with this setup.

The Z300 also features powerful connectivity including Bluetooth, IrDA, USB.

The Samsung Z500 is the smallest 3G phone currently on the market. However, the small size and weight (only 95g) don’t affect it’s functionality. It has everything you would expect from a good 3G handset.

It comes with a main 1 mega-pixel camera and a secondary 0.3 mega-pixel camera for 3G video calling and 1.3 Mega-pixel camera for photos. It comes with 50MB of internal memory which is expandable with small TransFlash cards, which keeps the size of the Z500 down.

It supports various media playback types, including MP3, AAC, MPEG4 and Real media. A WAP 2.0 browser and an email client are also available. It can be synchronised with a PC via Bluetooth, USB and IrDA to use the handset’s built-in PIM functions.

Samsung Electronics will showcase its third satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) phone (SCH-B200) at MIPTV / MILIA in Cannes, France from April 11 to 15, following the release of the SCH-B100 and SCH-B130.

Samsung’s new B200 boasts a horizontal screen that allows users not only to benefit from easier viewing of DMB services, but also to comfortably enjoy multimedia functions, such as photography and games. In addition, it is the first model to adopt Samsung’s innovative “slide and rotation” form factor, where the screen slides up and rotates horizontally, further enhancing user convenience.

Its large capacity battery (1300 mAh) allows users to continuously view the screen for more than three hours, resolving the battery-depletion problem that has plagued DMB phones. The B200 also has a 2-megapixel camera, allowing users to enjoy photo quality that is as good as digital cameras. The versatile phone offers a variety of multimedia functions, including MP3 player and video viewing and users can enjoy clear video reception through the phone’s 260,000-color, 2.2-inch wide LCD screen.

Moreover, the B200 provides a TV-out function, while supporting an external memory and offering a file-viewing function which allows fingertip access to a variety of files, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Samsung Electronics plans to release the B200 within the first half of this year. The company launched Korea’s first satellite DMB phone (SCH-B100) in January of this year and has recently completed the development of a terrestrial DMB phone (SPH-B1200).

The MIPTV / MILIA is one of the world’s largest broadcasting and audiovisual exhibitions. Traditionally an exhibition for broadcasting and film companies, more and more telecommunications companies are participating in the event with the growing convergence of the telecommunications and broadcasting industries.

Samsung introduced its first “file viewer” phones (model names: SPH-V6500 and SCH-V650) that allow users to view document and image files over the mobile phone. This phone is expected to enhance productivity of businesspeople that are constantly on the go but need to view business-critical information, such as PDF files, at anytime and anywhere. The file viewer phone supports various multimedia functions. Users can watch VOD programs and find the words to their favorite songs.

Samsung’s American arm will be unveiling 25 to 30 phones to be launched on the US market in 2005, including a 5-megapixel handset with a 3X optical zoom. It’s unclear if the phones are going to have European equivalents as there’s no actual spec list at present. We’re hoping they will be heading our way, however, since there’s some exciting new features on offer, including the world’s first speech-to-text dictation phone. This allows you to speak your messages to your handset, which converts them into text for your automatically. Handy if you’re in the car - although it would be better if your phone then read your received texts out to you as well.
