LG Electronics announced the launch of the LG-U900, the world’s first commercially available UMTS (WCDMA) DVB-H phone. The LG-U900 will be available early May through Hutchison, a leading global telecommunications services provider, in time for the 2006 World Cup.

Hutchison Italy, the country’s largest 3G telecommunications provider, has exclusive DVB-H broadcasting rights for the 2006 World Cup. The company will provide video footage of all World Cup matches beginning June 6, through the Hutchison’s service channels, ‘La3′. Hutchison plans to offer the LG UMTS (WCDMA) DVB-H phone to customers world-wide, after initially establishing a base in Italy.

LG successfully demonstrated the world’s first 3G UMTS DVB-H phone in Milan, Italy. LG also plans to supply the UMTS DVB-H phone to Hutchison, a leading global telecommunications services provider during the 2006 World Cup.

Hutchison Italy, the biggest 3G telecommunications provider in Italy, has exclusive DVB-H broadcasting rights for the 2006 World Cup and will provide video footage of all matches in Germany from June 6th. Utilizing its extensive network, Hutchison will launch the LG UMTS DVB-H phone worldwide, commencing with Italy.

The LG’s UMTS(WCDMA) DVB-H phone, the LG-U900, is a mobile TV broadcaster with a wide-swing screen. With its long lasting battery, users can watch TV for more than 3 hours. It is also equipped with a 1.3-megapixel digital camera that features 55MB internal memory capacity. The UMTS(WCDMA) DVB-H technology was improved from DVB-T, European terrestrial digital broadcast technology to become the European mobile broadcast standard. It provides high-speed data transmission, various channel services, a high-resolution image and strong mobile broadcasting.

Experts predict that the mobile TV service will attract 300 million users globally by the end of 2006 and the mobile TV market will reach USD 1.5 billion by 2009.

LG U8550 is another fashion music phone which resembles the style of Sony Ericsson Walkman series. The phone supports UTMS networks and has a 1.3 megapixe camera. The internal memory is only 20MB but you are able to expand it with a Transflash memory card.

Currently available only by the Italian operator Tre, it will be offered for sale with the compact stereo system and a 256 MB memory card with the album of Eros Ramazzotti onboard.

LG Electronics has announced that they will begin shipping their ultra-slim 18.2mm 3G WCDMA cell phone, the LG-U880 to the “3″ network in the UK, Italy, Austria, Australia, Hong Kong, Sweden and Denmark. This is the thinnest WCDMA cell phone ever to be released, almost as slim as the famous Motorola RAZR.

The LG-U880 will be available in a variety of color choices including glossy black, matt black, silver, and pink. It comes with embedded 75MB of memory and supports Transflash external memory and Bluetooth.
